What Is The Actor’s IPA?

The Actor’s IPA is:

  • a complete on-demand course created specifically for actors

  • made up of 78 lessons

  • taught by five professional dialect coaches

  • designed to help you use the International Phonetic Alphabet in practical accent work

The course can help you:

  • hear the individual sounds in any accent more clearly

  • develop greater physical awareness and flexibility

  • expand the range of sounds and speech patterns available to you

  • understand what an accent is doing

  • make more deliberate and repeatable speech choices

  • approach unfamiliar accents with greater confidence and precision

This is not simply a course in memorizing phonetic symbols. It is a system for listening more closely, understanding speech more precisely, and speaking in more ways than you may have dreamed possible.

While the entertainment industry is beginning to tell a broader range of stories drawn from more varied linguistic and cultural backgrounds, Global Majority / BIPOC actors have historically:

AM I ELIGIBLE?

You are eligible if you are a Global Majority / BIPOC actor over the age of 18 who is ready to spend 6 to 8 weeks immersing yourself in exploration of the International Phonetic Alphabet who would find taking the IPA course to be beyond their current means.

HOW IS THE TERM ‘GLOBAL MAJORITY’ DEFINED?

Neither Dialect Coaches.com nor The Accent Dream Team LLC have the authority to define the term ‘Global Majority’ so we defer to the definitions that you can find here.

WHEN SHOULD I APPLY?

Apply now! We review applications at least quarterly (Jan, May, July, Oct), and more often when possible.

At present, each scholarship covers up to 80% of the full tuition price of the complete course.
